A curious explorer at heart who finds joy in serving others, Benjamin embraced university life with open arms. He became a Peer Supporter in CEDARS’s Peer Impact Network, helping fellow students find their footing in HKU, and joined Project Mingde Student Association, contributing to meaningful infrastructure and social-service projects that reach impoverished communities across Asia.
Beyond his service, Benjamin was a lively member of Simon K.Y. Lee Hall who loved playing volleyball and cherished a memorable exchange semester in Sydney. As he steps into the next chapter, he looks forward to becoming a civil engineer.
Most valuable experience from your time at HKU?
My most valuable experience was spending a semester on exchange at UNSW in Sydney. Stepping out of my familiar HKU bubble meant facing every challenge of living abroad on my own — yet that was exactly where the real growth happened.
I found my people: a warm circle of like-minded HKU exchange mates, local UNSW friends, NSW HKU alumni, and my mentor in Sydney. Watching the sunrise together on the beach is something I would never have done back home, but it felt completely natural there.
Tell us how has HKU shaped you as a person
HKU shaped me into someone who keeps learning and never stops exploring.
The opportunities here are endless — scholarships, programmes, communities, events and more — yet what truly matters is what you choose to do with them. Every time I stepped up for a new role or tried something unfamiliar, I gained new friends and experiences along the way. I am grateful for an environment that is both abundant and open, where the choices are mine to make.
